Downtown Mobile Facade Grant Program

The MLKARC successfully lobbied to have historic commercial buildings in the MLK Avenue Community become eligible to participate in the Mobile Historic Development Commission’s Facade Grant Program. This eligibility came after the MLKARC’s revitalization plans were incorporated into the city’s comprehensive redevelopment plan for downtown Mobile.  The MLKARC also received a $25,000 grant from the J.L. Bedsole Foundation to establish matching funds for area merchants who were not eligible to receive city facade grants. The MLKARC provided matching funds up to $5,000 per applicant toward the total cost of the approved facade project through the Bedsole grant.
